What Happens After the Interview?

Hire Bulletin 12 October, 2022

After you've aced the job interview and been told you'll hear back soon, it's only natural to feel a mixture of relief and anxiety. The waiting game begins. Now that you've made it through the first part of the process, you might be wondering what comes next. Here's a look at a few things that typically happen after a job interview, as well as some advice on how to handle each stage of the process.

The Waiting Game

Once you've had your interview, all you can do is wait. It's important to follow up with a thank-you note as soon as possible after your meeting. This is just a common courtesy, but it also shows that you're interested in the position and willing to take the extra step. Other than that, there's not much else you can do but wait for a response from the hiring manager.

Try to be patient and give them a week or two before reaching out again. If you haven't heard anything after that timeframe, it's probably okay to send a polite follow-up email or give them a call. Just make sure not to be too pushy – remember, they're the ones in control at this point in the process.

The Offer (or Lack Thereof)

If everything goes well, the next step is receiving a job offer. Congratulations! This is an exciting moment, but don't get ahead of yourself just yet – most offers are conditional based on things like reference checks and background information. In some cases, the employer might ask you to undergo a medical examination before extending a final offer.

If you're not successful, don't despair – there are many reasons why someone might not get offered a job they interviewed for. It could be anything from the company deciding to go in another direction to there being another candidate with better qualifications. Just dust yourself off and move on to the next opportunity.

The job interview process can be nerve-wracking, but hopefully, this article has given you some insight into what happens after an interview and how best to handle each stage. Just remember to be patient, grateful, and professional throughout the process, and you'll increase your chances of landing that dream job in no time!
